Merrill Kost has a lifelong passion for the outdoors and has worked as an educator and administrator for over 10 years. Seeing the world as one of our greatest teachers, she believes in the power of place-based learning in decolonizing education. She holds a Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction, focusing on Nature-Based and Place-Conscious Practices. Her master’s research centred around introducing students to a habitual practice of walking and its effects on their attention both inside and outside the classroom. Merrill works with Learning Bird, an organization that partners with First Nations communities to develop localized language and culture resources and curricula.
