Mary Ann Nawagesic

Mental Health Lead

Matawa community schools

Boozhoo, my name is Mary Ann Nawagesic, and I am Bear Clan. I am from the Ojibway community of Kiashke Zaaging First Nation. My Anishinaabe name is 'Heart Drum Woman.' Since 2018, I have had the privilege of serving as the Mental Health Lead at the Matawa Education and Care Center, specifically serving Matawa community schools. As a devoted mother of three wonderful children and a grandmother to seven lovely granddaughters, family has always been at the center of my life. My educational and professional journey has been deeply rooted in Indigenous-focused fields. In 2014, I achieved a significant milestone by completing my Masters in Indigenous Social Work at Wilfrid Laurier University. I am deeply committed to the well-being and empowerment of our Indigenous communities, and I am honored to share my journey and knowledge at this conference.
