Barbara Wapoose, born in Ashawawagang, known as Landsdowne House, originates from Neskantaga First Nation. Throughout her childhood, she immersed herself in the land’s teaching alongside her parents, who taught her land-based survival skills. Fond memories include dog sled rides and her father’s treks between the trapline and community for trading necessities and furs. As an infant, she recalls being in a tikinagan by the beach, feeling the security of her parents’ presence and the natural work around her.
